Wakeham

Just when I thought my back was getting better; bang it went again. I'm starting to rattle now, with all the pain-killers I'm taking. So it was another walk up and down the back garden to stretch those legs, and at the same time being mindful not to over exert myself.

So after waiting for the thunderstorms to finally move away, I headed off up the garden.

This was just a small part of the lightning strikes that passed Portland today. There were many more in the English Channel heading north-east.

Moths Recorded:
Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum)

Main highlight was this Hummingbird Hawk-moth nectaring............

..................on a Red Valerian right next to me.


Bees Recorded:
Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris)
Common Carder Bumblebee (Bombus pascuorum)
Honey Bee (Apis mellifera)
sweat bee sp.

Hoverflies Recorded:
Common Dronefly (Eristalis tenax)
Marmalade Hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus)
Thick-legged hoverfly (Syritta pipiens)

On the Purple Loosestrife was this Thick-legged hoverfly (Syritta pipiens). .......

Flies, Craneflies, Gnats and Midges Recorded:
House Fly (Hebecnema sp.)

Using an app called Obsidentify it ID'd this small........

Slugs and Snails Recorded:
2 Garden Snail (Cornu aspersa)
2 White-lipped Banded Snail (Cepaea hortensis)

A few days ago I put some apples and over-ripe bananas next to the compost heap. Visitors today were two each of Garden Snail (Cornu aspersa) and............

.........White-lipped Banded Snails (Cepaea hortensis), which........

..........definitely have a liking for bananas.
