Old Quarry Lane and Wakeham Meadows

It was another late afternoon walk, which suits Ted, as it has been quite warm during the day. Plus I wanted to have another look in the same area as yesterday, to see if there were any Autumn Migrants about. There were, but only two Chiffchaffs

A female/juvenile Sparrowhawk........

..................created panic with the local passerines.

These two Chiffchaffs....

............kept well hidden in the undergrowth.

Moths Recorded:
A Straw Conch (Cochylimorpha straminea)
Rush Veneer (Nomophila noctuella) - Possibly

This Straw Conch (Cochylimorpha straminea) is pretty numerous in the meadow at the moment.

Possibly a Rush Veneer (Nomophila noctuella). If it is its a very worn individual.

Wasps, Ichneumon Wasps, Parasitic Wasps and Gall Wasps Recorded:
Common Wasp (Vespula vulgaris)
Gall Wasp (Dipoloepis rosaea)

It seems I have found a Common Wasp.............

.............nest.

A Robin's Pincushion on a Dog Rose. It is a gall caused by the larvae of a tiny gall wasp, Dipoloepis rosaea. More on this Here

I have just started to notice more spider webs on my walks. This one has been made by a Garden Spider (Araneus diadematus).


Ted:

Ted looking rather chilled . At least he found a bit of shade.

Ships Today:
