Portland Castle Beach, Portland Marina and Osprey Quay

The weather forecast was for a sunny afternoon. Well I guess it was, as it did eventually appear around 3:30pm. Unfortunately I had already finished my walk by then and was on my way back home.

Main highlight was the Black-throated Diver again, just east of the marina breakwater. Also in this area was a Great Crested Grebe, whilst in the marina itself were 5 Red-breasted Mergansers.

An unusual sighting though, were two Rooks close to Portland Castle. They stopped briefly on the grass before heading north over Portland Harbour.

Birds Recorded:
1 Black-throated Diver
1 Great Crested Grebe
Cormorant
Shag
5 Red-breasted Merganser
Black-headed Gull
Herring Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
4 Pied Wagtail
Blackbird
Wren
Magpie
2 Rook
Carrion Crow

A lone Great Crested Grebe just off Portland Castle Beach

One of many Herring Gulls in the harbour.

Resting up on the helicopter landing strip were these two adult Great Black-backed Gulls

A bit of a surprise were these two Rooks just north of the castle. They stopped for a short break and then headed north.

Ted:

Ted waiting for me despite the fact that I.................

...............was quite some distance from him. Instead of following me, he just stood there until I turned around and came back to him. He wasn't budging!!

This was a bit earlier when he was bombing about.

Great fun
