21 Aug 19

Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Penns Weare, Penns Copse, Rufus Castle, The Cuttings Quarry and The Mermaid Track.

We seem to be doing very well with the weather, with yet another warm sunny day. Main highlight this afternoon was the large flock of Long-tailed Tits, Great Tits and Blue Tits moving through Penns Wood. Sadly not a single warbler or crest in amongst them. Also in the wood were dozens of finches with youngsters of both Chaffinch and Goldfinch all chattering away.

Other birds of interest were a handful of Swallows heading south over the cove and my first Raven for quite a few weeks, croaking over Wakeham.

There seemed to be fewer butterflies about today, having said that there were still good numbers of Painted Lady's, Chalk Hill Blues and Common Blues. A Red Admiral was also noted on my walk.

Here are a few images from this afternoon.

One of the many juvenile Goldfinches in Penns Wood this afternoon.

A Wall Lizard on a wall, where else. There were also a few juvenile Common Lizards on Penns Weare.

Ships Today

This is the Dutch Cargo ship "Eems Coast" on its way from Cork to an unknown destination. More on this vessel Here.

And I have no idea what ship this is. It didn't show up on the Marine Traffic website, which makes me think that it is some sort of military boat.
