Penns Wood and St Andrew's Church
A short walk this afternoon, but still lots to see with dozens of Hornet Mimic Hoverflies on the Japonica in the wood, and on the Buddleia & Hemp Agrimony in the church grounds.
I did wonder if the Hornet Mimic Hoverflies were both Volucella inanis and Volucella zonaria, but despite the variation in sizes they were all V. zonaria. Other hoverflies seen were Pellucid Hoverfly, Marmalade Hoverfly, Dead Head Fly and Tapered Drone Fly.
Several butterfly species seen with 2 Large White, 1 Meadow Brown, 1 Gatekeeper, 1 Painted Lady, 1 Comma and 2 Chalk Hill Blue seen in the church grounds and 2 Speckled Woods in the wood.
A Jersey Tiger moth was in the church grounds as was a Wall Lizard.
Here are a few images from today:

Lots of variation in size and colouration but all Volucella zonaria
One of several Dead Head Flies also on the Japonica. Despite its name, not a fly but a hoverfly.
