Lunchtime today I dropped into Ferrybridge to see what had been pushed up in front of the Chesil Beach Centre at High Water. A great decision as it turned out, with a Little Gull flying in and settling in front of me. Also on the waterline were over 80 Dunlin, 3 Sanderling, 3 Turnstones, several Ringed Plover and a mix of Black-headed Gulls and Mediterranean Gulls.
I did just miss out on 3 Common Sandpipers, which according to other birders had left 10 minutes before I arrived and there were 3 Wheatear on Chesil Beach, which were a bit out of range of my binoculars.
Other birds of note were a few Sandwich Terns and a couple of juvenile Little Terns.
Over the beach a small party of hirundine flew south which was made up with Swallows and Sand Martins.
Here are a few images from today:
A very bleak looking Fleet as the wet weather closes in.
The drizzle certainly didn't put these waders off.
Here we have 2 Ringed Plover and a juvenile Pied Wagtail in flight.
A Dunlin and 2 Ringed Plovers
More Dunlin and a couple of juveniles in amongst them.
A nice surprise was this Little Gull.
It landed in front of me and proceeded to preen itself.
A Kestrel spooked the waders and they took off and landed on the sand flats a little further away.
The disturbance by the Kestrel at least helped separate these 3 Sanderlings from the 80+ Dunlin.
A juvenile Little Tern in search of a snack.
And finally a juvenile Mediterranean Gull.
