In the back garden, before the thunderstorm hit us, a Hornet Mimic Hoverfly, several Common Droneflies and a Red Admiral feeding on the ivy flowers.

Thank you to the lady who told me she had seen a seal feeding close in to the beach. If it wasn't for that timely meeting, I would never had spotted the Grey Phalarope swimming about by the waters edge. I managed a couple of record shots of it, as it fed adjacent to the Cove House Inn Here at Chiswell and then it took off and headed up Chesil Beach towards the The Fleet. I tried to locate it again, but it had gone.
In the search for it I did eventually see the seal pop its head up out of the water a couple of times. The feeding activity of the seal didn't go unnoticed by the local gulls, as they swooped down to grab whitebait which had fled onto the beach.
Also on the beach were lots of dead animals with 1 seal, 3 Gannets, 3 Razorbills and a Grey Trigger fish that looked like it had been speared.
A Red Admiral was an interesting one to find as it flew in off the sea.
Here are a few images from this morning:
Chesil Cove
A lot calmer than in recent days.
A record shot of a chance sighting of a Grey Phalarope.
I was looking for a seal that had been seen........
.....and as I was peering through my binoculars, lo and behold I spotted this tiny sea bird. Unfortunately it didn't stay long and head back up Chesil Beach.
One of many Great Black-backed Gulls here.
And a few Herring Gulls as well.
A pair of Rock Pipits were busy catching small flies........
.......as were two Pied Wagtails.
Sadly there are always casualties at sea, especially when nets are lost. This seal was entangled in one and subsequently died either from starvation or drowned.
It wasn't just the seal either with 3 dead Gannets found........
.......and 3 Razorbills.
This Grey Trigger fish though looks as if it might have been speared. More on this fish Here.
Birds recorded (alive) were: Gannet, Cormorant, 1 Grey Phalarope, Black-headed Gull, Herring Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Rock Pipit, 2 Pied Wagtail and 2 Linnet.
