Wakekam and The Grove

A lovely walk along the cliffs behind the cottage to The Grove and then back down Bumpers Lane past Broadcroft Quarry Butterfly Reserve and home.

En route Dawn and I met Danny Fox, who used to run The Pulpit. A lovely man and who undoubtedly had the best carvery I've ever had the pleasure of eating.

Unlike past days the number of butterflies about was pretty impressive, with many Red Admirals and Large Whites on the wing. A Small Tortoiseshell was a nice surprise and always good to see a few Painted Lady's about, no doubt migrants from across the Channel.

Birds encountered on their Autumn passage was quite good with Bumpers Lane quarry full of warblers with 2 Blackcaps, 1 Garden Warbler, 3 Chiffchaff and 1 Willow Warbler. A Goldcrest was also in amongst them.

Along the cliff top lots of Swallows making their way down to the Bill and just south of Broadcroft Quarry a solitary Wheatear.

Common Buzzard over Grove Cliffs

I thought this was Lulworth Cove as seen from Grove Cliffs, Portland, but I'm just a bit to far west. This is Man O'war Beach and Durdle Door is to the left of the frame, just out of sight. Next time!
And what I thought was Durdle Door is in fact Bat's Head.
