Wakeham

Today I showed off my culinary skills in cooking a leg of lamb for a Sunday roast. It did mean however, that there was no walk today, but instead an afternoon in the back garden, in between checking the progress of the meat and veg that is.

I did however have to pop into Weymouth first thing and on returning home a female Wheatear flew across the road in front of me, close to Hamm Beach.

In the back garden though the only migrant noted was a Willow Warbler passing through, whilst further down the street a Blackcap was singing.

Despite the sunny weather there was no sign of any butterflies, but there were plenty of bees about, especially on the Cherry Tree which is now in flower.

Earlier this morning at around 4:00am, Ted wanted to go outside. As I waited for him, the Little Owl was heard calling again to the east of the new Bumpers Lane housing estate.

And the one that got away. As I was preparing the veg, I heard a commotion outside the back. The gulls were going mad, and dont ask me why, but I ignored them. What they were pursuing was a Black Kite, which must have passed over the house before it was reported on Twitter, as it reached the Verne at the top of the island a little later. Hmm say no more!!
