Wakeham

Still sunny, but absolutely freezing in that strong easterly wind. Temperature late was 10.0°C, compared to yesterday's 17.2°C.

There were certainly fewer bees about, with just 2 Buff-tailed Bumblebees, a Red-tailed Bumblebee, 1 Honey Bee, an Ashy Mining Bee, 1 Early Mining,  2 Yellow-legged Mining Bees and 1 Bronze Furrow Bee. A new addition to my garden list was a Grey-patched Mining Bee (Andrena nitida)

New to the garden list today were a Dead Head Hoverfly and a "tent" full of Brown-tail Moth caterpillars. Not a caterpillar liked on Portland due to the irritating hairs they have which can cause skin rashes.

And a new fly to add not only to my garden list but to my Portland one as well. A very small fly called a Brachycoma devia.

Here are a few images and a video from today.

Dead Head Hoverfly a new addition to my garden list.

A very very small fly.

After a bit of stealth I managed to get in close. I have been told that this could be a Brachycoma devia

And another new addition to the garden list, a "tent" full of caterpillars of the Brown-tail Moth.

Here is one I prepared earlier 😀. This Brown-tail Moth was in my back garden on 3 Jul 17. So it looks like we will have some again this Summer.
