Wakeham

An early morning walk around the meadows today and the main highlights were a Silver Y moth and 3 Common Green Lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea). The latter new for me on Portland.

Here are a few images from this morning:

Just 4 Marbled Whites in the meadows today.

A tatty looking Common Blue

And another one.

Green-veined White

A pair of Gatekeepers mating and an interloper.

Speckled Wood

Six-Spot Burnet.

Silver Y

A male Red-tailed Bumblebee

A Common Red Soldier Beetle.

A female Swollen-thighed Beetle.

A Harlequin ladybird

Alder Spittlebug, Aphrophora alni

And a Common Green Lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea), in fact I came across 3.

And here's another.

Tout Quarry

A late morning walk around Tout Quarry and lots of butterflies especially Chalk Hill Blues. Also 5 Grayling, the first for me this year. Other butterflies seen were Small Skipper, Large Skipper, Large White, Green-veined White, Ringlet, Meadow Brown, Gatekeeper, Marbled White, 1 Painted Lady, Peacock, Common Blue and Chalk Hill Blue

Also seen a Hummingbird Hawk-moth.

Here are a few images from this morning:

One of the 5 Grayling I found this morning.

And another.

A Six-Spot Burnet Moth

Having found my first ever Chalk Carpet on 14 Jul this year, I managed 2 more today in Tout Quarry.

Here is the second Chalk Carpet.

A Hummingbird Hawk-moth, always on the move.

Never keeping still for more than a second.

A brief couple of seconds for a half decent shot and then probably my best................

........opportunity, but alas its just going out of the frame.

A photo of one of the more picturesque spots in Tout Quarry.

This is a Carline Thistle (Carlina vulgaris)
