A busy day, but just time to have a walk across the road to Wakeham Wood and Meadow opposite the cottage. Main highlight today was my first Gatekeeper along the track by the wood.
Still lots of Marbled Whites, Meadow Browns and a few Ringlets. A Peacock was also good to see, its been awhile since I've seen any Portland.

A lot of Marbled Whites still about.
This is a female Marbled White.
Also many Meadow Browns, and a good comparison with a very similar looking butterfly the..........
..........Gatekeeper with two white spots as opposed to just the one with a Meadow Brown. Well most of the time!!
A Red-tailed Bumblebee
This is Common Centaury, Centaurium erythraea and on the smaller plant to the right is.....
.............. what I believe is a Eupeodes luniger hoverfly.
Birds Recorded: Herring Gull, Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, 2 Swallow, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, House Sparrow, Chaffinch and Goldfinch.
Butterflies Recorded: 3 Large Skipper, 1 Large White, Ringlet, Meadow Brown, 1 Gatekeeper, Marbled White, 1 Painted Lady, 1 Peacock and 1 Common Blue
Moths Recorded: 1 Garden Grass-veneer (Chrysoteuchia culmella) and Six-Spot Burnet moth (Zygaena filipendulae)
Bees Recorded: Honey Bees, Common Carder (Bombus pascuorum) and Red-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus lapidarius)
Hoverflies Recorded: Marmalade Hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus) and a possible Eupeodes luniger
Bugs and Beetles Recorded: Swollen-thighed Beetle (Oedemera nobilis)

This evening a Cherry-fruit Moth (Argyresthia pruniella) on the neighbours Buck Thorn next to my Cherry Tree.

Often seen flying in daylight and often seen around Cherry Trees. And a first for me on Portland
