Wakeham

Well the welcome rain arrived and apart from about 30 minutes this afternoon when the sun came out very briefly, there was no let up.

Sadly the rain put paid to recording any butterflies for the UK's Big Butterfly Count, which started today. Unfortunately tomorrow isn't looking brilliant either, but you never know. More on the butterfly count Here.

With so much rain about there was not a lot to write about, but at least the Brown House Moth (Hofmannophila pseudospretella) I found in the conservatory was the first one I've recorded on Portland. That's if I have ID'd it correctly.

Also seen in the conservatory one of the smallest Garden Spider (Araneus diadematus) I have ever come across.

A Brown House Moth

Garden Spider. You can just make out its thread above and below it.
