Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Perryfield Quarry Butterfly Reserve, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penn's Weare, Penn's Copse, Rufus Castle, and Mermaid Track

Ted and I managed a quick walk to the cove, before the rain began to fall. And what an impressive walk it was with huge waves pounding the beach. So much so that there is now a very steep incline at the northeast corner of the cove.

Highlights today were 60+ Herring Gulls, 7 Common Gulls and 2 Black-headed Gulls feeding just beyond the first breaker. Though at times many of them just managed to fly off before the waves toppled over them.

On the beach were 15 Rock Pipits, 2 Pied Wagtails and a Wren, all of which were living on the edge as the waves "flew" up the beach towards them.

Elsewhere there was a Song Thrush in Penns Wood, where there were also quite few Blue Tits, Great Tits and Chaffinches.

Here are a few images and videos from today:

Good to see a few Rock Pipits at the cove today. It's not been a good Winter for them.

One of the 15 Rock Pipits on the beach today and so many Kelp Flies about.

And its been awhile but the two Pied Wagtails were also on the beach.

You can see why, with all those Kelp flies flying about.

Just beyond the first breaker and there were a good sixty Herring Gull.

And wasn't just Herring Gulls but also a few Common Gulls. There are 2 Common Gulls in this photo, or should that be 1 and bit

Herring Gulls and Common Gulls just off the beach at Church Ope Cove

A few more Herring Gulls with some very dark-coloured first winter birds.

Here are 4 more Common Gulls

And one coming into land.

Another Common Gull.

Two of the seven Common Gulls just out in the surf.

And talking about the surf it was..............

................pretty rough out there

That was close

A safer distance to watch the waves

And they were certainly impressive.

The Shambles Sandbank and some huge waves running along its length.

If you go down to the woods today..........

.........you'll find Ted somewhere in amongst the Japanese Spindle.
