Wakeham Wood and Meadow.

A cloudy start to the the day, with the occasional glimpse of the sun, with the main highlights this morning being the number of moths on the wing with 6 species noted. I recorded 5 Garden Grass-veneers, a Carnation Tortrix, 1 Hook-streak Grass-veneer, Marbled Bell and a new moth for me on Portland a Barred Marble (Celypha striana). There was one other moth, but unfortunately I can go no further than an Endothenia sp

Not to many butterflies about in the cloudy conditions and the best I could do was 2 Meadow Browns and a single Speckled Wood.

In the hedgerows along the Wakeham Track Here there were at least 5 Amblyteles armatorius Ichneumon Wasps, Common Green Shieldbugs and caterpillars of both The Lackey and Brown-tail moths.

A few firsts for me today with a Crane Fly (Nephrotoma quadrifaria), a Cinnamon Bug (Corizus hyoscyami) and a possible Ichneumon Wasp (Opheltes glaucopterus).

Here are a few images from this morning:
The meadow at Wakeham

One of the 5 Garden Grass-veneers I found in the meadow.

This is a Barred Marble, Celypha striana and a new one for me on Portland.

This is a moth which can only be told apart by dissection so...............

..........it will remain as an Endothenia sp.

A Carnation Tortrix, Cacoecimorpha pronubana

Hiding in the meadow a Meadow Brown.

This is an Ichneumon Wasp.............

...........and is a good candidate for an Opheltes glaucopterus

Along the track in the hedgerow ..........

............a Common Green Shieldbug.

Also here a Brown-tail Moth caterpillar and a.........

Lackey moth caterpillar.

Wakeham Wood and in the undergrowth.....

..........Ivy Broomrape, Orobanche hederae

Lurking in the undergrowth a Nephrotoma quadrifaria Crane Fly.............
