Wakeham Wood and Easton Railway Cutting

Back again this morning, but sadly a Cold front was slowly moving in and the early morning sun soon disappeared. Before the cloud moved in I did at least see a Hummingbird Hawk-moth flying along the wall at The Railway Cuttings. Unfortunately it didn't remain and disappeared off towards the Windmills.

Not to many Small Blues about, there were a couple of pairs along The Railway Cuttings and another pair in the Meadow Here. At both these locations I also came across my first Meadow Browns of the year. Along the track close to the wood a Small Copper settled on the ground.

Also in the meadow were several Garden Grass-veneers moths and my first Burnet Companion of the year.

Here are a few images from this morning:

For a short time there was blue sky and a little bit of sunshine.

My first Meadow Brown of the year.

The "Meadow" where I came across another Meadow Brown, several Garden Grass-veneers moths and..........

...........this Burnet Companion.

Wherever there is Ivy running across the ground there is always a good chance to find this parasitic plant called an Ivy Broomrape, Orobanche hederae.

The Dorset County Council Public Footpath Here which leads you from Wakeham to the Easton Railway Cuttings. No Planning permission given yet, but rumour has it that there are plans to build a Bungalow alongside the track here.

On the path a Small Copper settles.

The first Buddleia flower I have seen this year. A bit early I would have thought!!

These huge green leaves most likely belong to the Lesser Burdock, Arctium minus. However there are several Burdock species and even the experts will tell you it's difficult to distinguish one species from another. More on this Burdock Here
