Broadcroft Quarry Lane, Pools and Bumpers Lane

I was up early this morning in the hope of spotting the Pallas's Warbler again, sadly after 3 hours of walking around Broadcroft and Bumpers it was quite obvious it had moved on.

Nevertheless there were other excellent birds about with my first Little Owl on the island, with a very vocal individual in the thicket just north of Bumpers Lane.

Other highlights were 1 Snipe, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 female Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, 5 Goldcrest and 3 Firecrests.

A male Kestrel

Not sure if this is the same bird as above, but thank you to Nick Smith for pointing out that this individual is a sub-adult bird around 2 years old. He certainly knows how to hunt as he has "stripped-down" mouse ready to eat.

An unexpected surprise with a Little Owl calling from the thicket just north of Bumpers Lane.

Hamm Beach

This evening it was a quick stop at Hamm Beach Here, on the way back from Weymouth to see the Great Northern Divers there. I managed one, not sure were the other one was. The one I acme across was feeding close in to the pontoons of the marina.

Also about several Mediterranean Gulls, an Oystercatcher, Shag, Cormorant and 14 Pied Wagtails preparing for roost. In the distance i could see dozens of Red-breasted Mergansers through the scope.

The bay where the two Great Northern Divers were seen this morning.

But just this one seen this evening.
