With family here today, it was just a quick walk up a very muddy lane to see if the Firecrests were still about. I found one though not in the lane but by the pool area.
I had actually walked up the lane without coming across anything and then a small party of Long-tailed Tits appeared by the Inert Tip Recycling entrance and with them were 2 Chiffchaffs chasing each other, a Goldcrest, a Great Tit and Blue Tit.
I followed them back down the lane and then they disappeared over the buddleia. So it was up the tractor track here and then up onto the bank overlooking the pool area. I was in luck as they were feeding in the brambles below me, and I was even luckier as a Firecrest joined them.
Also here were a few Chaffinches and a pair of Greenfinches, the latter the first I've seen or heard here in weeks.
Here are a few images from this afternoon, before the heavy rain arrived, including Bo and her mate, the resident Herring Gulls who were back on the neighbours chimney pots again. Bo gets her name from the coloured rings on her leg (Blue and Orange 771).
The Inert Tip up Broadcroft Quarry Lane
And the hedgerow on the other side of the lane which has had some good birds travelling up and down it over the past month or so.
I seem to be able get a fairly decent shots of Goldcrests.
This one shows its yellow head stripe very clearly here.
A side profile with the white around the eye.
A bit of fluff up.
Britain's smallest bird
A Long-tailed Tit.
