Lorton Meadows

A change of scenery today and a lot closer to home.

Main highlight on my walk this afternoon was watching the juvenile Barn Owls on their nest in the wall of the Dorset Wildlife Trusts building at Lorton Meadows Here. Well I say watching, the Trust have set up a Webcam and it can be viewed live................

One of at least two juvenile Kestrels on the DWT roof.

And the second juvenile on the right. The one on the left is possibly the bird in the photo above.

Hmm a juvenile Green Woodpecker. Moving on.

So many Chiffchaffs seen and heard, with many juveniles calling.

As we left the car park we passed this the.........

...........Barn Pond.

Looking back towards the DWT house

The track leading up to............

Once through Coffin Plantation it was downhill towards Teddy Bear Woods.

Before we got to the woods it was a right-hand turn and down towards two mile coppice and then onto.........

...........the Hay Meadows which has an amazing number of Oak trees growing in it. If you didn't know any different you would think it was an Apple Orchard.

The Verne

Before I headed off to Weymouth I stopped off by the Verne to see a juvenile Barn Owl, my friend and neighbour Andy had located.

In the rock face sits a juvenile Barn Owl

Okay it wasn't that easy to find.

Zooming in and here is the juvenile Barn Owl having a nap before its next meal. This is my first Barn Owl this year. Cheers Andy.
