A day spent working in the garden and the main highlight was a Humming-bird Hawkmoth which literally zoomed in, hovered momentarily next to a Valerian and then flew off, never to be seen again
This Dunnock has been singing and calling in the back garden for over a week now. I can only surmise that the female is sitting on a nest nearby.
The pond is slowly disappearing as the Water Mint and other aquatic plants edge their way over the surface.
Where there was a bit of open water, one of the Palmate Newts came out into the daylight.
Here it is again and in fact at the start of the video, there is a leg and a foot of another newt at the top of the frame.
A possible Yellow-legged Mining Bee (Andrena flavipe)
This is one of the Sand Wasps, but with just the one photo there isn't enough detail to go beyond Ectemnius sp.
Surely I should be able to identify this Ichneumon Wasp, especially as it.......
.....took off to reveal the colour and patterns on its abdomen. One to ID later, hopefully
This is a Common Field Grasshopper (Chorthippus brunneus) which was sat on one of our canoes.
Ahh now this is its normal habitat and certainly better camouflaged from predators.
An interesting mini spider which had a triangular "Tightrope" between a cane, the stalk of a Valerian and...........
.............a Valerian flower head. One of the "Money Spiders" maybe.
And Ted who was a bit fed up that we didn't have long walk today.
My "Lockdown" Garden List is Here.
