Old Quarry Lane, Wakeham Meadows, Wakeham Wildlife Site, Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Wakeham Railway Cuttings (east) and The Mermaid Track

It was another morning walk around my local patch, and though I didn't come across any Firecrests, there were plenty of other migrants about.

Old Quarry Lane: 2 Swallows, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Chiffchaff
Wakeham Meadow: 7+ Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Blackcap
Wildlife Site: 4 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Chiffchaff
Wakeham Railway Cuttings: 1 Chiffchaff
Wakeham Railway Cuttings (east): 3 Chiffchaff
Mermaid Track: 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest

Also noted were a few Siskins overhead.

A few unidentified flies
Locust Blowfly Stomorhina lunata

A Locust Blowfly Stomorhina lunata, which looks more like a hoverfly than a true fly. The larvae as the name suggests feed within locust egg pods, but as non have ever been found in British Grasshoppers or Crickets, then the adult fly is considered a vagrant. More on this fly here and here.

There were 3 Dark Bush-crickets Pholidoptera griseoaptera gathered on this Alexanders Smyrnium olusatrum, but one disappeared sharpish as I moved in closer. On the left is a male and on the right a female.
