Hopefully for the next two weeks, there will be a few sightings and photos from our holiday in Majorca.

Day 1.

Left the cottage at 4:15am and arrived at Bournemouth International Airport at 5:35am.

En route a Short-eared Owl nearly hit the car as we drove across Portland Beach Road, where there was also Fox close to Ferrybridge

We took off at 7:30am and arrived at Palma at 10:20 local time.

Note new species for fauna and flora will be highlighted in Blue.
Lifers will be highlighted in Red and any very interesting fauna and flora will be highlighted in Mauve.

The first bird noted was a lark sp. seen by Dawn, and then followed by a feral pigeon and 4 Swifts over the Airport terminal.

Other birds seen were House Martin, House Sparrow and Yellow-legged Gull

We left the airport for Alcudia at 11:55 and en route saw Collared Dove, Serin, 2 Eagle sps., Kestrel, Pheasant (Dawn), Little Egret, Wood Pigeon, Common Buzzard, Goldfinch, Mallard and Blackbird.

We were the last to be dropped off at our hotel in heavy rain, after an hour long coach drive from Palma to Alcúdia.

After having booked in and had a bite to eat, Dawn and I headed off for a walk around the "block". One to get our bearings and two to see what was about.

We didn't have to wait long as we ticked off Moorhen, Coot, Cetti's WarblerBalearic Spotted Flycatcher (Muscicapa striata balearica) and a Sardinian Warbler.

Back at the hotel we also recorded both Little Egret and Cattle Egret, plus a Swallow flying past the balcony.

Also heard was a Parakeet sp in the hotel grounds.

Our flight details

Our bumpy landing at Palma de Mallorca airport.

An adult Yellow-legged Gull. Other gulls noted around Alcudia were Audouin's Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gulls and Black-headed Gulls.

Not a Wall Brown as I thought, but a very orange coloured Southern Speckled Wood. A very abundant butterfly around the hotel and neighbouring fields and woods.
