Lower Horse Paddock, Higher Horse Paddock, Broadcroft Quarry Lane, Silklake Quarry, Bumpers Lane, Wakeham Railway Cuttings (east), Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Wakeham Meadows and Old Quarry Lane

Back on my local patch this morning with the main highlights being a Blackcap singing close to the Railway Cuttings (east), plus at least 5 singing Chiffchaffs along my walk.

When I got home news filtered through that a Hoopoe had landed in the same paddock one was seen on 27 Mar 25 here. Hopefully if its still there I'll be able to see it later. And yep you've guessed it, 40 minutes after it was reported it had flown off.

For a millisecond I thought I'd found my first Ring Ouzel this Spring. They are about, but not this bird, as it's a male Blackbird.

I've seen plenty of Speckled Woods on the on the mainland this Spring, but this is my first one on Portland this year.

Watery Lane

Having heard that another Hoopoe was in the fields to the west of Watery Lane, I went and had a look. Unfortunately it had flown by the time I got there 40 minutes later.

Other birds in the fields here were: Dunnock, Robin, 1 male Stonechat, 8 Wheatear, Blackbird, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Starling, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Linnet and Goldfinch
