Broadcroft Quarry Lane, Broadcroft Butterfly Reserve, Lower Horse Paddock, Wakeham Meadow and Old Quarry Lane

Yet again it was another very sunny day, but absolutely freezing in what felt like the "Beast from the East" again. Today the wind was even stronger than yesterday, so it seemed pointless to visit the cove. Instead I tried to find shelter and hopefully find something of interest, with a walk along the lanes, the butterfly reserve and then down quarry lane.

Unfortunately the wind seem to cut into every nook and cranny, and the best I could do was a single Common Dronefly, a 7-Spot Ladybird and 3 Buff-tailed Bumblebees.

Despite recording 19 bird species, views of most of them were brief apart from a confiding Robin in Broadcroft Quarry Lane and 40+ Herring Gulls plus 2 Great Black-backed Gulls in the horse fields.

Mammals Recorded:
Bunny

Birds Recorded:
40+ Herring Gull
2 Great Black-backed Gull
Wood Pigeon
Collared Dove
Dunnock
Robin
Blackbird
Great Tit
Blue Tit
Wren
Magpie
Carrion Crow
Jackdaw
Starling
House Sparrow
Chaffinch
Linnet
Goldfinch
Greenfinch

The easterly blast saw at least 40 Herring Gulls taking shelter in one of the horse fields.

Most were hunkered down with a few joining them like the 1st Winter bird on the left and an adult to the right coming into land.

Keeping themselves away from the Herring Gulls were these 2 Great Black-backed Gulls. Between them is a Herring Gull and a Carrion Crow.

Despite the howling gale, this Robin was singing away in Broadcroft Quarry lane.

Bees Recorded:
3 Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris)

I only found 3 Buff-tailed Bumblebees, all of them were low down in the vegetation along Broadcroft Quarry Lane

Hoverflies Recorded:
1 Common Dronefly (Eristalis tenax)

Bugs and Beetles Recorded:
7-spot Ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata)

A 7-Spot Ladybird which had found a warm sunny spot along Old Quarry Lane.

Plants Recorded:
Common Field Speedwell (Veronica persica)
Lesser Periwinkle (Vinca minor

This is Common Field Speedwell and also goes by the name of Buxbaums’s Speedwell. More on this flower Here.

This is Lesser Periwinkle and is also known as Dwarf Periwinkle, Small Periwinkle, Common Periwinkle, and sometimes in the United States, Myrtle or Creeping Myrtle. More on this flower Here.

Ted:

I've never seen Ted move so fast as he spots a Bunny crossing the lane. He was quick but not as quick as Mr Bunny.
