Old Quarry Lane, Wakeham Meadow and Wakeham Railway Cuttings

Yet another sunny day, though I will be surprised if it remains so for the rest of the coming week.

It was a short walk today, but the area covered was a good one for any "expected" warblers such as Yellow-browed Warbler or Pallas's  Warbler. Unfortunately not today.

Mammals Recorded:
Grey Squirrel

One of the local Grey Squirrels raiding the bird seed on this bird table in the nearby Caravan Park.

Birds Recorded:
Herring Gull
Wood Pigeon
Collared Dove
2 Skylark
4 Meadow Pipit
Dunnock
Robin
Blackbird
3 Song Thrush
2 Chiffchaff
Great Tit
Blue Tit
Wren
Magpie
Carrion Crow
Jackdaw
Starling
House Sparrow
Chaffinch
4 Siskin
Goldfinch

Butterflies Recorded:
3 Speckled Wood
2 Red Admiral
1 Small Copper

Still a few butterflies about. This is a Speckled Wood.

Just 2 Red Admirals seen today.

Bees Recorded:
Honey Bees (Apis mellifera)
Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris)
Ivy Bee (Colletes hederae)

An Ivy Bee resting on an Ivy leaf.

As long as the weather remains mild and dry, plus there is still Ivy in flower, then these Ivy Bees will keep on collecting pollen.

Wasps Recorded:
Common Wasp (Vespula vulgaris)

Hoverflies Recorded:
Common Dronefly (Eristalis tenax)

Still good numbers of Common Dronefly about. And it appears they are the only hoverflies about at the moment

Bugs and Beetles Recorded:
2 Harlequin Ladybird (Harmonia axyridis)

Harlequin Ladybird (Harmonia axyridis form - succinea)

And this is another Harlequin Ladybird (Harmonia axyridis form - succinea), but with a slightly different pattern.

Ted:

One happy dog to be out walking again.
