This afternoon Dawn and I spent a couple of hours fishing off the end of Weymouth's Stone Pier. Our last visit drew a blank, but with scaled down tackle we managed to catch 11 small Pollack and Pouting. The final count was Dawn 6 - 5 Martin.
Birds seen here were at least 5 Common Tern, an Oystercatcher, several Herring Gull, 2 Great Black-backed Gulls, Black-headed Gulls and a pair of Mallard bobbing about on the sea.
It might be small but this Pollack was Dawn's first ever Sea Fish.
A few Pouting and Pollack.
A Herring Gull...........
........and its larger cousin the Great Black-backed Gull
Rufus Castle
Another quick walk at the back of the cottage down to Rufus Castle and back. Lots of Gatekeepers about, which are outnumbering the Marble White butterflies. And even more Six-spot Burnet moths around today with at least 7 counted. Other butterflies seen were both Large & Small Skippers, Ringlets, Large Whites and Meadow Browns.
Always on the lookout for new species and Dawn and I came across a very red-coloured Dark Bush-cricket, Pholidoptera griseoaptera
On the walls by the arch-way at least 3 Wall Lizards with a pair mating. A big thank you to my friend Steve Covey for identifying these as Wall Lizards. I originally had them down as Common Lizards and to be honest wasn't aware we had Wall Lizards on Portland let alone in the UK. Many thanks Steve.
Spot the Lizard...
.......two here.....
......a bit closer.....
.......and really close.
This is a youngster.
And this is a pair mating.
A bedraggled Gatekeeper.
