Wakeham

There was a bit more action in the back garden today, with a Small White, Red Admiral, Silver Y, Common Carder Bumblebee, a Mason Wasp and a Common Green Capsid to add a bit of a variety to what has been pretty dire this year so far for invertebrates.

Dragonflies and Damselflies Recorded:
4 Azure Damselfly

A male Azure Damselfly.

And another one.

And a third.

And a female Azure Damselfly

Butterflies Recorded:
1 Small White
1 Red Admiral

A Small White

And a pristine looking Red Admiral

Moths Recorded:
1 Silver Y (Autographa gamma)

Bees Recorded:
2 Honey Bees (Apis mellifera)
2 Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris)
2 White-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus lucorum)
1 Common Carder (Bombus pascuorum)

A White-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus lucorum)

And a Common Carder (Bombus pascuorum)

Wasps and Gall Wasps Recorded:
1 Mason Wasp (Ancistrocerus sp. )

Below are a few images and a video of  the Mason Wasp in the back garden. There are two very similar species so it will remain as a Ancistrocerus sp. The two species can be found here and here.

Hoverflies Recorded:
15+ Marmalade Hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus)
1 Narcissus Bulb Fly (Merodon equestris)

I'm still trying my hardest to get a decent photo of a Marmalade Hoverfly in flight. This shot was taken at 1/2000th of a second.

Flies, Craneflies, Gnats and Midges Recorded:
20+ Semaphore Fly (Poecilobothrus nobilitatus)
fly sp.

A very small orange fly. The closest I could find was a Sapromyza quadricincta. However the chances of it being this species is pretty unlikely, especially with hundreds of similar species.

Bugs and Beetles Recorded:
1 Swollen-thighed Beetle (Oedemera nobilis)
1 Common Green Capsid (Lygocoris pabulinus)

A female Swollen-thighed Beetle. Its been awhile since I've seen a male in the garden

And a Common Green Capsid
