20 May 23

Old Quarry Lane, Wakeham Meadow, Easton Railway Cuttings, Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Bumpers Lane and Lower Horse Paddock.

At long last it looks like we might have some settled weather for a week or so. After yesterdays torrential rain and thunderstorms, it was a totally different day today, with lots of sunshine and a bit of warmth.

With a majority of the Spring migrants here now, apart from the odd Swallow passing overhead, my main focus has now switched to butterflies, especially now that it has warmed up. Today I recorded 8 species, which is the most I have had in one day this year.

There were a few more beetles about and a new one for me in the shape of a Mottled Dingy-brown Click Beetle (Agrypnus murinus)

Ted:

Ted feeling the heat. At least he's found a bit of shelter.

Sadly he has succumbed to those dreaded ticks, the first in 8 years. They've all been removed, but to stop him licking his legs, he has a couple of blue bandages fitted. So it will be daily checks after walks now, to make sure he is tick free. Poor Ted. 😢
