Wakeham

Talk about torrential rain this afternoon. After most the afternoon was showery, there was one last downpour which absolutely hammered down. And when it finished the sun came out with wall to wall blue skies. Straight away the Large Whites, Small Whites and bees appeared in the garden, along with this Hummingbird Hawk-moth.

For a change Ted and me had an early morning walk to beat the rain forecast for late morning. And what a lovely morning it was, with no wind, a bit of sun and just the right temperature for a stroll down to the cove and and back.

Some good highlights as well with a few Tree Pipits, Yellow Wagtails and a couple of Grey Wagtails calling overhead, whilst in a few locations I came across a few Chiffchaffs.

No butterflies seen, to early, but I did come across a Silver Y moth.

This morning though was really all about the hoverflies, especially on the flowering Ivy down the second lot of steps to cove. There were masses of them, mainly Dead Head Hoverflies, a few The Footballers, both Common & Tapered Droneflies and a lone Lesser Hornet Hoverfly. In amongst them were a few Common Wasps, Honey Bees and a couple of Ichneumon Wasps

Here are a few images from this morning:

It was a bit too early for butterflies, but I did come across this Silver Y moth

There were a few hoverflies about with Tapered Droneflies...............

...............and Common Droneflies in the church grounds.

As I made my way down to the cove I came across a flowering Ivy packed with hoverflies like this Lesser Mimic Hoverfly and...................

..............Dead Head Hoverflies. There were also Common and Tapered Droneflies plus this Ichneumon Wasp sp on the top flower head.

Its that time of year when the berries start to appear, especially Blackberries and these Sloe.

Ted waiting patiently for me to come down the steps from the "Ope". I dont think he realised I was watching him.

In the end he did see me and headed off into the church grounds.

On the horizon the storm clouds gathered and just as we got home the heavens opened.
