Easton Railway Cuttings, Wakeham Meadow and Old Quarry Lane

On the way back from the shops in Easton I took a more scenic route home, via the cuttings and meadow. Despite the lack of any sunshine, it was really humid this morning, almost to the point where it could well have rained. It was well muggy.

Not really any highlights, in fact there was very little about, with just 1 Chiffchaff the only migrant I saw.

Not too many butterflies either with singles of Meadow Brown, Gatekeeper and Red Admiral. There were a handful of Large and Small Whites and I came across just one pair of Common Blues.

There were a few moths in the meadow a Straw-barred Pearl, a Tortricidae moth sp. and a few "veneers". Between the cuttings and meadow I came across my first ever Wavy-barred Sable (Pyrausta nigrata)

I came across just 4 Marmalade Hoverflies on my travels, but in the meadow there must have been a very recent emergence of a hoverfly called The Footballer. There were at least a dozen I counted.

Here are a few images:

Easton Cuttings, where back in the late 60's the last train from Weymouth passed through here.

The only thing of note along the Cuttings was this Marmalade Hoverfly and a couple Large Whites.

Between the cuttings and the meadow I came across this moth on the track. Certainly not one I have come across before and on returning home and after a bit of research it is a Wavy-barred Sable (Pyrausta nigrata)

Common Blue

And another.

Another moth, which just spotted in the meadow was this Straw-barred Pearl

This is one of the Tortricidae moths. And one to ID later.

This is one of the 12+ The Footballer hoverflies which were all over the meadow.

And of course man's best friend, well he's certainly mine and that is Ted.
