Old Quarry Lane, Wakeham Meadow, Perryfield Quarry Butterfly Reserve, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church Grounds, Church Ope Cove, Penn's Weare, Penn's Copse, Rufus Castle, The Cuttings Quarry and Mermaid Track

Another blustery day and not a lot about, apart from a dozen or so "blue" butterflies, which was a bit of a surprise considering the strength of the wind.

There were a few Swallows and House Martins heading south over Perryfields butterfly reserve, but there were no other migrants seen or heard.

Here are a few images from today:

A lot of the butterflies are looking very worn now like this Red Admiral

When butterflies start to wear, it can get increasingly difficult to ID them, especially "blue" butterflies. I could hazard a guess that this is a male Common Blue which has lost most of its blue pigment from its upper wings. I dont think it's a female, despite it being mostly brown, because there doesn't appear to be any orange spots on the outer rear wings. Or is that because it is a female and the orange spots have faded away to nothing.

Now in comparison to the Common Blue in the image above, this is a female Chalk Hill Blue, which appears to be in good nick much like..........

...........the male Chalk Hill Blue here.

Well they don't come any harder than this individual. There are just enough black spots on the outer upper wings to say that this is another male Chalk Hill Blue.

And of course the obligatory photo of Ted, waiting for me and Dawn carry on walking.

And then of course we got to the Cuttings Quarry and it was............

...........drink time under the railway sleeper again.
