Wakeham Wood, Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penns Weare, Penns Copse, Rufus Castle, Bumpers Lane and Mermaid Track.

A disaster of a day in many respects as the overnight roost for the Goldcrests, Firecrests and warblers was grubbed out this morning. And all for a Eco Bungalow, which hasn't even been given Planning permission yet.

At the end of the day, it is private land and the new owner has every right to remove the Buddleia and Brambles, but it has been at a cost. All very sad, when you realise that almost 2 years ago to the day there was a Pallas's Warbler, 1 possibly 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, a Firecrest and 20+ Goldcrests at this location. This year there have been 8 Goldcrests, 3 Firecrests and up to 8 Chiffchaff here.

Today before it disappeared there was a Firecrest, 3 Goldcrests and 2 Chiffchaffs in the wood there, whilst overhead 300+ Starling headed north.

Elsewhere:

Penns Wood: 1 Goldcrest

St Andrew's Church: 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest and 12+ Long-tailed Tit

Church Ope Cove: 1 Rock Pipit. Out to sea an Oystercatcher heading north.

Penns Weare: 1 Chiffchaff and 5 Long-tailed Tit. Overhead a Redpoll and 3 Siskin

Penns Copse: 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Goldcrest and 8 Long-tailed Tit

Here are a few images from today:

A Common Carder in the grounds of St Andrew's Church

And the sad sight as the crest, tit and warbler Winter roost is destroyed.

It is Private Land and the owner is quit entitled to grub it all out for his Eco Bungalow. Just a shame that a bit of ground work before hand would have stopped the destruction of the roost in this corner of his property. I wonder where the roost will be now!!

And in the sun as always, the Man o'War Cove. More on the cove Here.

Ships Today

This is the Container Ship "Mol Triumph" flying the flag of the Marshall Islands. It is on its way from Singapore to Southampton. Judging by its past track it looks very much like it is involved in an exercise with the "Navy", as it makes a couple of tight circles along its route in British waters. More on this vessel Here.

This is the Bulk Carrier "Pretty Lamb" flying the flag of Panama. It is on its way from Oulu (Finland) to Alexandria (Egypt). More on this vessel Here.

This is the Cargo Ship "Holstentor" flying the flag of Antigua Barbuda. It is on its way from Avonmouth to Maratea (Italy). However what is confusing is that it is heading east up the English Channel. Odd!!! More on this vessel Here.
