Wakeham

First birds seen (in order) this year were House Sparrow, Blue Tit, Robin, Wood Pigeon and Blackbird. All seen in the back garden on a very wet start to the year.

Pennsylvania Castle Wood and Church Ope Cove

This afternoon, once the rain had stopped, it was off to Pennsylvania Castle Wood and Church Ope Cove. And what a great start to the year with excellent views of the Yellow-browed Warbler in the woods. It didn't stay long and once again it dropped down to the back of Church Ope Cove along with the Long-tailed Tits.

On my way down to the beach I came across 2 Firecrests in St Andrew's Church grounds.

The Long-tailed Tits were nowhere to be found so it was onto the beach where the "Rock" Robin was in residence along with several Wrens, the male Pied Wagtail and 2 Rock Pipits. Out to sea were a few Black-headed Gulls, Herring Gulls and a lone Great Black-backed Gull.

I met a couple on the beach, who had travelled down from North Wales. They also had the Yellow-browed Warbler in Penns Wood and while we were on the beach they spotted it again by the beach huts in the North-east corner of the cove. We watched it move up the cliff face and I headed up after it. Eventually it appeared in the Sycamores on Rufus steps, where I had first located it on 5 Dec 17.

From here it dropped back down to St Andrews Church and I picked it up again at the bottom of Penns Wood where this time it was calling well.

Here are a few images from today.
