Wakeham

This Evening
This evening a Lovebird flew over the house heading north. Somebody's pet, hopefully it will be found. In the garden still a lot of hoverflies, 2 Lacewings. and a Honeybee that spent a lot of time on the Cherry tree either drinking, eating or collecting something!

Lacewing sp.

Honeybee. Not quite sure what its doing here. Drinking, eating, collecting!

This morning
The longest day of the year and a short night, and what a sultry one it was. Not surprisingly I was awake at 6:00am, but at least I got to hear a "late" dawn chorus which comprised of a Kestrel calling, Herring GullWood PigeonCollared DoveDunnockBlackcapWrenCarrion CrowHouse SparrowChaffinchLinnet and Goldfinch.

When I eventually got up there was a Garden Tiger moth in the conservatory. Sadly a very worn one but never-the-less my 25th species on the Island. As I let it out I could see an adult Blue Tit feeding one of its hungry youngsters on the feeder. Fortunately the Garden Tiger flew off in the opposite direction.

A very worn Garden Tiger moth, found in the conservatory this morning.

Verne Common
Amazing views from the Verne, though the haze was quite intense as you looked along the coast. My first Small Tortoishell on Portland seen here this afternoon. Also about Meadow Browns and Burnet Moths.

Birds recorded here were: Buzzard, Kestrel, Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Wood Pigeon, Swift, Swallow, Pied Wagtail, Dunnock, Blackbird, Common Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, House Sparrow, Chaffinch and Goldfinch.

The view from the Verne looking along Chesil Beach. Tomorrow morning Dawn and I will be walking along it with a local wildlife group. Hopefully some good views of the Little Terns will be had.

A Buzzard soars over head.
