Wow talk about windy, does it ever stop. Must be the 4th or 5th day on the trot, that the wind has been blowing a hoolie around the island. At least it wasn't raining and after finishing all my chores, I finally got out for a walk in the sun at my favourite spot on the island, Broadcroft Quarry Butterfly Reserve.

Where the track heads north from Bumpers Lane it actually bisects the Reserve, so for a change I opted for the Reserve on the left (west) and wasn't disappointed with a good sighting of a Common Whitethroat and a few butterflies, a Red Admiral, 2 Large Skippers, 3 Dingy Skippers and 3 Speckled Woods.

Across on the East Reserve I came across another Red Admiral, 1 Large Skipper, 4 Speckled Woods, a Painted Lady (which looked just like yesterdays individual) and just 1 Common Blue which was hanging onto a grass stem that was bouncing off the ground and back again in the wind.

A few bird sightings here were 2 Buzzards and a Sparrowhawk zooming through at hedge height. Quite a few juveniles birds about with Blue Tits, Blackbirds and Dunnocks.

A couple of new insects for my list a Froghopper though which species I have no idea and Southern Pill Woodlouse Armadillidium depressum

Here are a few images from this afternoon.

Broadcroft Quarry Butterfly Reserve to the west of the track.

And a beautiful view looking south across the reserve.

A Red Admiral soaks up the sun.

The Portland Stone certainly warms them up.

A Large Skipper

Just the one Common Blue today...........

...........which was hanging on for dear life in the blustery wind.

Southern Pill Woodlouse - Armadillidium depressum. They are everywhere in the quarry, garden and house

Possibly the same Painted Lady I saw here on 9 Jun, though it seems to have lost a bit more from the tip of its right-hind wing.
A Large Skipper with wings folded.

Out to see off the Bill a rather odd looking vessel!

And back home a Froghopper
