Penns Wood, St Andrews Church, Penns Wood, Rufus Castle and Portland Museum

This is more like it, a sunny windless day and wall to wall blue skies.

I was out fairly early this morning and it appears to early to record any reptiles, butterflies, bees, hoverflies, bugs and beetles. I did hover find a mating pair of Green-longhorn moths in Penns Copse, and a single Green-longhorn and Carnation Tortrix just below St Andrew's Church.

There were a few singing warblers about with a Blackcap and Chiffchaff in Penns Wood, a Chiffchaff and Blackcap at the back of the cove, another Chiffchaff in Penns Copse and a Willow Warbler by Portland Museum.

Here are a few images and sound tracks (videos) from this morning.

Looks like someone has been busy in Penns Wood, planting Field Maples.

Here's another one and.......

........a Holly.

In fact there were several Holly trees and at least 3 Field Maples.

The sun just coming out over St Andrew's Church, but to early for any insects.

Just below the church grounds a Green-longhorn moth.

In the copse there was this very busy.......

......and songful Chiffchaff.

Not the easiest of birds to photograph as I was looking straight into the sun and....

.........through lots of foliage.

I at least managed to video the Chiffchaff "chiff-chaffing".

And in comparison of a warbler that is very similar in appearance to a Chiffchaff, a Willow Warbler singing.

In Penns Copse a pair of mating Green-longhorn moths.

Not too many Celery Flies about, just this one seen in Penns Copse.

The view from top of the steps at Rufus Castle looking south.

Down the steps on the right a Carnation Tortrix.

Lots of Red Valerian out now and a few.......

........White Valerian (Centranthus ruber alba)
