Wakeham Wood, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penns Copse and Mermaid Track

After a wet miserable start this morning, the drizzle fizzled out, leaving a grey murky day.

Main highlights today were a Chiffchaff singing at the back of the cove, 2 Common Whitethroats on Penns Weare, another along the Mermaid Track and one more just west of Bottom Combe Quarry. No sign of the Garden Warbler at Wakeham Wood, in fact there weren't any warblers singing or calling here.

The earlier rain certainly put paid to a lot of things and the best I could with invertebrates were singles of hoverfly, bees, and bugs. I did however have a fly-by Carnation Tortrix moth and a Common Slender (Gracillaria syringella) on a twig alongside the steps leading up to Rufus Castle. Another moth to add to my Moth List Here.

Here are a few photos from this afternoon:

Brown-tail moth caterpillar.

A very green Penns Wood.

An Ichneumon Wasp, one of the Heteropelma species I suspect.
