Portland Bill

A late morning walk around the Bill and fields was quite rewarding with a few new species for the year with a Red-Legged Partridge just up the track to the right of the Crown Estate Fields, 4 Stock Dove in the same field and 10+ Skylark overhead.

Other highlights were 4 Stonechat in the fields and by the Bill, a Firecrest in the top fields and an impressive count of 110 Linnet though I suspect there were a lot more.

By the Bill just 3 Purple Sandpipers, many Razorbills and my first Guillemot in close to the Pulpit Rock.

Here are a few images.

The Lighthouse and Obelisk

The waves crashing onto the rocks.

My first Guillemot of the year close in to the Pulpit

and another shot of it.

Not Guillemots but Razorbills. So similar looking in the winter. Heavier beak than the Guillemots dagger shaped one.

Just the 3 Purple Sandpipers here today.

And here's the other.

The 3 Purple Sandpipers feeding on the rocks next to the Pulpit, until a wave nearly swept them away.

A Rock Pipit

On the Pulpit this sea angler caught a decent sized Ballan Wrasse of around 3lb.

In the fields north of the PBO 3 of the 4 Oystercatchers.

Around the Crown Estate Fields a female Stonechat....

....and her mate.

I just managed to photograph this Firecrest as it took off. It was in the centre of the frame!!

A rare sight nowadays a Greenfinch in the Obs garden.

There are 110 Linnets in this flock. Sad I know but I counted them twice. There were many more out of shot.

Here a few have settled on a bush.

And here are 2 of the 4 Stock Doves in the Top Fields.

Not sure what this vessel is. It doesn't show up on Marine Traffic Web Site Here. A naval ship I guess but as to what I have no idea.
