Wakeham

It was a day off today and a relaxing time in the garden. Main highlight was watching two Swifts drifting south over the garden. There have been a few Commas about, over the past few days, so it was good to see my first one in the garden.

This German Wasp Vespula germanica was very busy around the border flowers looking for its next meal.

Obsidentify seems pretty sure that this is a Common Tiger Fly Coenosia tigrina. Two days ago I had my first Coenosia sp., though not not down to an individual species. This is probably the same, a Coenosia sp.

A Common Green Shieldbug Palomena prasina - 2nd instar nymph

Top to bottom a Marmalade Hoverfly Episyrphus balteatus, Cinnamon Bug Corizus hyoscyami and a Greenbottle Lucilia sp.

Several times as I was watching this Cinnamon Bug it.............

................would attempt to fly, and then retracted its wings.

A new species of Leafhopper for me. It is one of the Eupteryx sp.

Caterpillars of the Large White Pieris brassicae on one of their favourite food plants Nasturtium Tropaeolum majus.
