Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Mermaid Track and Wakeham Wood

At long last the wind has died down a bit, still a bit breezy but nothing like the past few days. Main highlights today were the Yellow-browed Warbler and Firecrest in Wakeham Wood (See Note below). Other highlights were 3 Goldcrests and a Chiffchaff in Penns Wood.

No sign of the Black Redstart in Church Ope Cove, but on the beach there were 7 Rock Pipits. whilst out to sea an Oystercatcher and an unusual sighting of a Black-headed Gull. A say unusual, the only gulls I really see here are Herring and Great Black-backed Gulls. It flew in and settled on the water just off the beach and picked away on the surface before taking off and heading out to sea.

Just 2 Red Admirals seen and lots of wasps on the Ivy, well those that are still in flower.

Here are a few images and a video from today:

Church Ope Cove

Its great when all you have to do is wait for your dinner to come to you. This Rock Pipit was having a right feast on the Kelp Flies on the beach at Church Ope Cove today.

After the miserable weather over the past few days or so.........

..........these Rock Pipits are at long last...........

............enjoying a bit of sun.

There were seven here today feeding on the millions of Kelp Flies.

An Oystercatcher makes a...............

...........a fly-past.

An unusual sighting of a Black-headed Gull which is just losing its Summer "head".

I say unusual as all I normally see along the coast here are Herring Gulls and Great Black-backed Gulls.

Certainly a few wasps about where there are still Ivy in flower.

Wakeham Wood............

.........the home for the moment to a Firecrest.

Not the best of photos.

As good as my camera is, it can only zoom in so far. The Yellow-browed was in the same tree but a lot more mobile. Last Winter a Yellow-browed was in this area for 4 months so there's time yet for a photo of it, I'm sure.

A Gannet perhaps!!!
