Wakeham

Another day in the back garden and it was quite noticeable that there was a bit of an exodus of birds heading south. In amongst the local hirundines, which consists of a pair of House Martins and 3 Swallows, there were 20+ Swallows moving through at speed towards The Bill. With them were several Swifts all heading in the same direction.

In the back garden another species heading south was a Willow Warbler checking out the Cherry Tree, Buddleia and the neighbours Runner Beans for insects.

Lots of youngsters about with 5 juvenile House Sparrows , 3 Chaffinches and 2 Great Tits, in the Sycamore and on the feeder.

A few butterflies passed through with singles of Red Admiral, Meadow Brown and Large White.

Common Field GrasshopperChorthippus brunneus was resting on the chair in the Courtyard before the rain came down.

This evening as I was watering the plants I disturbed 3 moths a Rusty Dot Pearl, Light Brown Apple Moth and a Firethorn Leaf MinerPhyllonorycter leucographella
