Portland Harbour, Newton's Cove, Weymouth Bay, The Hood and The Mulberry's.

A bit of a voyage this afternoon trying to catch Squid. No luck on that front, but some good bird watching was had as we headed through the Harbour across Newton's Cove to Weymouth Beach and back via The Hood.

Birds noted were: 1 Slavonian Grebe/ Black-necked Grebe by the Mulberry's, 5 Gannet out in Weymouth Bay, 2 Shag, 10+ Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron in Portland Marina, 12 Red-breasted Merganser in the harbour and Portland Marina, 2 Oystercatcher on the breakwater, Black-headed Gull, Mediterranean Gull, Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Common Gull in Weymouth Bay, 1 Razorbill in Newton's Cove and 2 Carrion Crow flying across Weymouth bay towards Lodmoor.

Here are a few images from this afternoon:

A Red-breasted Merganser just off Sandsfoot Castle Beach

Another view showing quite a bend in its neck.

A few Gannets shots.

Another

Not sure if this is a Slavonian or Black-necked Grebe.

Another dreadful shot of my mystery grebe as it kept disappearing in and out of the waves rolling in at The Mulberry's.

A Grey Heron in Portland Marina

Not sure if this is "Danny" the Bottle-nosed Dolphin. This individual was out in Newton's Cove and followed us for awhile before heading back into the cove.
