Weymouth Bay and Church Ope Cove

Dawn and I had an afternoon out in Tiki for a bit of Mackerel fishing. And the score on the door was 4 - 1 to Dawn. Next time!!

There were a few Mackerel shoals about and a pair of Sandwich Terns were making sure they didn't miss out on the Whitebait being pushed up to the surface by the Mackerel.

Overhead at The Hood Here there were 2 adult Peregrine Falcons showing junior how to hunt. The target they were practising on were a pair of Herring Gulls. The adults took it in turn to dive onto the gulls and then at the last minute they pulled away. Amazing to watch.

Also out to sea a single Razorbill heading down to towards The Bill, whilst on the Portland Harbour Breakwater there were plenty of Herring Gulls, a few Great Black-backed Gulls, several noisy Oystercatchers and a Rock Pipit.

Also noted were several Bumblebees with just a Red-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus lapidarius) recognised.

Here are few images from this afternoon including a Pirate Ship!

Church Ope Cove.

Dawn is really going for it and its not surprising.........

.......a full house.

Not easy photographing Peregrines from a rocking boat. Here the youngster underneath is begging for food.

The other adult bird in flight.

Watch out the pirates coming into port.

The Moonfleet sailing boat returns to port......

.....with the Jolly Roger showing well. More on this vessel Here.
