A beautiful morning again and as I was up at 5:15am I opted to visit Radipole Reserve in the hope of possibly ticking off a Cuckoo and maybe a Grasshopper Warbler for my year list. Well I managed one out of the two with a Cuckoo north of the North Screen Here, almost in the same area I had the Bittern on 27 Feb.
The traffic noise made it very difficult to pick out any Grasshopper Warblers, if there were any, though I did look round quickly when a squeaky bike passed me by. Other warblers about were lots of Reed Warblers, a few Sedge Warbler, 12+ Cetti's Warbler, 2 Garden Warbler, 3 Common Whitethroat, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap and a single Chiffchaff.
Here are a few images and a video from this morning:
Looking east from the North Screen at the rising sun.
And looking north where the Cuckoo was calling from.
Overhead and at eye-level were several Swifts.
A Grey Heron has a ruffle.
This Mute Swan was on guard and had just seen off two Canada Geese.
House Sparrows. There can't be to many Wetland Reserves that have a good handful of House Sparrows on site. Always a pleasure to see.
A Sedge Warbler singing from the Hawthorn bush.
And here a Reed Warbler singing from the Reeds.
One of two Lesser Whitethroats on the reserve, this one was on the Buddleia loop, the other just before the North Screen.
A very short video of a Lesser Whitethroat.
A Cetti's Warbler.
After a long intro this Cetti's Warbler eventually burst into song.
Not a warbler but a male Greenfinch singing away.
A splendid drake Pochard. Love those red eyes.
A Mute Swan..........
.......sporting a yellow Darvic ring CJU. I will find out more on this bird.
