Out and About

As soon as I spotted a bit of blue sky this morning, it was a quick trip to the Recycling Centre on Portland, and then a walk along the esplanade at Chesil Cove, followed by a walk from Portland Castle Beach to Hamm Beach and back.

Chesil Cove

With strong south westerlies the sea was pretty rough, with just a handful of gulls foraging in amongst the flotsam.

Birds Recorded:
1 Cormorant
10+ Black-headed Gull
8+ Herring Gull
2 Great Black-backed Gull
1 Rock Pipit
1 Pied Wagtail
1 Carrion Crow

A "Butter wouldn't melt in their mouths" moment.

Portland Castle Beach to Hamm Beach

Having braced the wind at Chiswell, it was off to calmer waters in the harbour. How wrong was I. Though there weren't the huge waves crashing about, it was still pretty windy, with white-topped waves making observation of divers impossible.

The only highlight was at Hamm Beach where there were 14 Turnstone.

Birds Recorded:
Cormorant
Shag
14 Turnstone
Herring Gull
Magpie
Starling

Below are a few photos and a video of the Turnstones at Hamm Beach

I said it was windy
