The remnants of Storm Callum passed over Portland during the night, leaving a less blustery and sunny morning. As I passed the lower paddock a Wheatear flew over my head and landed on a pile of rubble in the new housing estate in Bumpers Lane. I watched for awhile as it stood there preening and then I made my way up the lane.
Here along the lane there were 3 Chiffchaffs with 2 singing. Also here were 2 Great Tits, a Blue Tit and 2 Robins.
Nothing of note in the upper paddock, but as I made my way down through the lower paddock I came across a Chiffchaff and 3 Great Tits in the Sycamore on on my right.
Further down there were a pair of Stonechats and the returning Wheatear. On the fence line to the east were a further 2 Stonechats with several Meadow Pipits.
Here are few images from this morning:
The lower paddock which today had 4 Stonechats, 1 Wheatear, 3 Blackbirds, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Robins and many more birds.
For a short time this Wheatear was on a mound in Bumpers Lane where the old weigh station used to reside.
The Bumpers Lane Wheatear having a preen.
It was there for awhile until......
......it flew back to the brambles in the lower paddock and then.........
......carried on feeding in the paddock.
Not sure what it caught but it looks like a bit of clover was eaten as well.
The lower horse paddock is proving to be a good feeding ground.
Also here a male Stonechat.........
.......and the female.
Here the female Stonechat has "paired" up with a Robin.
And here is another female Stonechat with a Meadow Pipit for company.
In the lane a Chiffchaff.......
.......which burst into song along with another further down.
