Spent all day rehanging 4 internal doors, resetting latches, building a bathroom cabinet and hanging pictures, so not a lot of outdoor activities. I did however manage to photograph the 3 juvenile Herring Gulls nesting in between the neighbours chimney pots and realised when I was looking at the images, that one of the adults was ringed with red numbers on a blue band.

One of the adult Herring Gulls looks on as the 3 chicks have their supper. The ring is 771, I shall email the BTO and find out more on this individual.

There are are 99 British species in the Psychodidae family and they are all very similar looking. However this does look like Tonnoiriella pulchra. Common names given to this family are Moth Fly, Owl Midge, Owl Fly and Drain Fly. The latter so called because the larvae frequent drains. More Here on this family.

The back garden, 100ft long, 10 ft wide and lots of grass. Hopefully I'll get the moth trap out one of these nights.

A very blustery day, with Sleet and SNOW. Only on Portland.

When I finally got out it was still very windy but at least the sun was out. New bird species today was a solitary Oystercatcher on the Fleet.

Our first walk since we arrived on Portland and a walk around the quarry behind the cottage this evening. The walk Dawn, Benji, Ted and me took was down Wakeham to Rufus Castle and then doubling back along the path that overlooks Church Ope Cove and then up through the quarry behind the cottage. Birds recorded here Herring Gull, Linnet, Blackbird, Chaffinch and Wood Pigeon.

A yacht takes shelter from the heavy seas.

A very poor panorama of Bumpers Lane quarry soon to be a housing estate for 71 homes I believe.

A busy day going back and forth to the recycling centre on Portland followed by a trip into Weymouth. On the fleet a single Great Black-backed Gull and just as I drove up into Wyke Regis a Starling.

Unfortunately with the gale force winds and driving rain, there wasn't much else to see, though one unfortunate driver ended up putting their car on its roof!

Not sure how this car ended up on its roof in a 30mph section of road in Wyke Regis. Hopefully the driver was okay

Mid morning there were at least 8 Corn Buntings "clicking" away as they flew north-west over the garden. Presumably a male Goldfinch - he likes to sit on the neighbours aerial and sing for most of the day.

Also about 3 Buzzards overhead. Also about were Herring Gull, Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Swallow, Pied Wagtail, Dunnock, Blackbird, Chiffchaff, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Wren, Carrion Crow, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Linnet and Greenfinch.

No new additions to my garden list but birds seen and heard today were Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Linnet, Wren, Blackbird, Carrion Crow, Wood Pigeon and Herring Gull.

Butterflies and Moths seen were Red Admiral (daily sightings now), a Green-veined White and another Hummingbird Hawk-moth.

Other invertebrates were small bees (mining bees possibly - one to check), lots of large millipedes.

Today's birding highlights from the garden were a Kestrel and a Peregrine Falcon mobbing a scrawny Buzzard just 50 feet above my head.

Also 2 House Martins and a Magpie which I heard at 1:15am, possibly scolding a Fox.

A bit of a quiet day, as I spent most of it unpacking boxes, apart from when Benji was taken to the vets for a MOT.

New birds today for my seen and heard from the garden list were Blackcap and Dunnock.

The visit to the vets meant a quick walk around Radipole Gardens and also a chance to look across the Reedbeds on the reserve.

In the Gardens there was a family of Spotted Flycatchers and a Song Thrush singing, whilst on the reserve there were Tufted Duck, Mallard, Great Tit and at least 4 Cetti's Warblers.

On the way back there were Black-headed Gulls, Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a Common Gull on the Fleet.

Back at the house this evening lots of moths. When I'm sorted I'll have to put the Moth trap out one night and see what's about.
