Wakeham Wood, Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penns Weare, Penns Copse, Rufus Castle, Bumpers Lane and Mermaid Track.

I know we say it "What a difference a day makes", but never has that saying ever been so true, with wall to wall blue skies, warm sunshine and a light wind. A complete contrast to yesterday's gale force winds and torrential rain.

It was good to see that yesterday's horrendous weather hadn't effected the birds in anyway and that the Yellow-browed Warbler in Wakeham was still present, albeit along the Railway Cutting.

Here is a break down of the birds recorded this morning:

Wakeham Wood: 4 Chiffchaff, 12+ Long-tailed Tits, 3 Firecrest and 8 Goldcrest. Overhead 600+ Wood Pigeon and 2 Redwing

Wakeham Railway Cuttings: 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Yellow-browed Warbler, 1 Firecrest, 4 Goldcrest. Also a Fieldfare over.

Church Ope Car park: 2 Chiffchaff and 1 Goldcrest. Heading north a Siskin

Penns Wood: 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest and 15+ Long-tailed Tits. Also here the Great Spotted Woodpecker again.

Church Ope Cove: 26 Rock Pipit, 2 Pied Wagtail, 1 Grey Wagtail and 3 Black Redstart

Penns Copse: 1 Chiffchaff

Wakeham north of Bumpers Lane: 2 Redwing

The sun was warm enough today to entice a few juvenile Wall Lizards out for some basking in the grounds of St Andrew's Church, were there were also 2 Red Admirals and a worn Painted Lady.

Here are a few images from today:

Over Wakeham.................

.........hundreds of Wood Pigeons flying about.

In Penns Wood a Chiffchaff

St Andrew's Church grounds and a few German Wasps return to their nest.

The sun was warm enough for a Painted Lady and also.........

.............these juvenile Wall Lizards in the church grounds.

This morning at the cove were 3 Black Redstarts

Last year a couple of them over-wintered here.

Seems they are a little early this year.

Plenty of Kelp Flies on the beach to keep these.........

...........Rock Pipits happy.

Also on the beach this juvenile Pied Wagtail, with an adult close by.........

..........plus this very smart looking Grey Wagtail.

After walking along the railway cutting earlier I doubled back there after visiting the cove. The Yellow-browed Warbler was still present (though a bit camera shy) unlike this Chiffchaff and........

.........and a second one. In fact there were 4 Chiffs in total.

Also along the cutting were 3 Firecrests.

And another.
