Wakeham

This afternoon while I was removing some of blanket weed out of the garden pool, I came across the Common Darter nymphs from last year. They seem to be doing well and I found 3 in the weed.

There is ceratinly a lot of vegetation in the pool I created last year and........

..........these nymphs of the Common Darter are still here. Last time I saw them was in August last year Here.

Wakeham Wood, Penns Wood, Church Ope Cove and Bumpers Lane

Another warm sunny day, which at least looks like lasting until the weekend. Main highlight this morning was a Chiffchaff singing along Bumpers Lane and another calling from the back of the cove.

Most of the action today though was overhead with 3 Siskins, 8 Meadow Pipits and 7 Linnet all seen and heard heading north.

The Wall Lizards were out in abundance and as I took a slight detour around the copse on Penns Weare, there were dozens scurrying around in the undergrowth.

As my walk was a little early, there didn't seem to be to many butterflies about, but the Comma in the grounds of St Andrew's Church was still there and other than the Peacocks, I came across just the one Green-veined White today.

Earlier on my walk I took the path through Wakeham Wood and came across what I think was a 'nest' of Brown-tail moth caterpillars. The larvae were very small, so one to watch as they grow and perhaps get a 100% ID later.

Here are a few images from today:

Probable Brown-tail Moth caterpillars in their cocoon. One to follow over the next few weeks

Lots of Wall Lizards out today.

The only ones really showing were in the grounds of St Andrew's Church, with dozens f others scurrying about in the undergrowth.

A Wrens nest, exactly where there was one last year. Hopefully just as successful.

Lesser Celandine, Ranunculus ficaria flowering in several sheltered places now. More on this plant Here
