Wakeham Wood, Penns Wood, Church Ope Cove, The Cuttings and Bumpers Lane

A beautiful sunny day, spoilt really by the sad news that climber fell from a high point on The Cuttings this morning. Speaking to a few of the climbers there this afternoon it seems that a rope slipped or something. Lets hope whoever they were they make a speedy recovery. More on Dorset Echo Here.

Onto the birds news and in Wakeham Wood again the overwintering Chiffchaff was still present along with 2 Goldcrests. In Penns Wood another Goldcrest, whilst most of the action was at Church Ope Cove with 2 Black Redstarts, 1 Stonechat, 2 Chiffchaffs, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Pied Wagtail, just 9 Rock Pipits and both the "Rock" Robin and "Hut" Robin present.

On its favourite rock at the north end of the cove was the Herring Gull again along with an Oystercatcher, whilst at the other of the beach there were 2 Great Black-backed Gulls.

Here are a few images from this afternoon:

A 1st Winter Blackbird is waiting for me patiently to leave Wakeham Wood.

A quick look and its back to those Ivy berries.

Wakeham Wood. Present here today were the 2 Goldcrests, Chiffchaff and several Goldfinches.

A Fox realises I'm close by and heads off to Bottom Combe Quarry.

On the cliff top at Church Ope Cove one of the two Black Redstarts strikes a nice pose.

A Rock Pipit on the hunt for Kelp flies.

This one is having a break and does a bit of sunbathing.

Whilst this one is about to do a bit of...........

...................preening before flying off.

The "Rock" Robin is off to show the other birds that he's in charge.

Sorted and back on his perch to keep an eye out for any other intruders to his patch.

Behind the huts on the north cliff a Chiffchaff. Further around by the coast path another was calling.

The overwintering Grey Wagtail and...........

..............yep still here the overwintering Stonechat.

The "resident" Herring Gull has a friend, an Oystercatcher.
